Fall Catch Up

Hello Lovelies!
I had a friend who used to call me “Lovely Little Linda Lu”. I loved it . Anyways from here on out, you shall be know as my “Lovelies” and I suppose our children will be referred to as the “Littles”. Speaking of the Littles…. whew! Did they give me a run for my money this evening (all day, really)! I am exhausted. My 3 year old, Lucas, is a TALKER!!! Oh my! And I put that in caps to emphasize that when he talks, he does so in a very LOUD manner! I was laughing hysterically earlier today when I started counting silently to see how long he was quiet between outbursts. He just couldn’t stop himself! I would ask him to sit quietly and it was “MOM! Can I have some juice!”, “MOM! What are you doing?”, “MOM! Did you see that?”
I would say, “Please Lucas, just eat your food.” Count 1,2,3,4,5,6…. “MOM! What are you eating?” 1,2,3,4…. “MOM! When are we picking up Maya?”
…and so forth… all day…
And my soon to be 8 year old daughter, Maya, just killed me with the usual nighttime struggle of eating dinner and reading a few pages from a book. Any book! It takes a good 30 minutes, full of distractions, to read about 5 minutes worth. Seriously, what is that? And knowing that she is so very much like me in so many ways, does not make it better. I am always distracted. In fact, I’m sure I didn’t sit down to blog about my children in the first place.
If I drank alcohol, tonight I would be drunk.
As life goes, there have been some ups and downs lately. Bad news first, I attended the funeral of an old friend in late July. Next weekend is another funeral for a family friend who was in a rather horrific car accident. And a lovely friend, my age, has been fighting cancer for 3 years and is in hospice. Stupid cancer! It’s what took my other friend in July. It is so tragic. Just awful. Yet, it is another reminder that all we truly have is today. And to be grateful for all I have and cherish it all. Even when I’m frustrated with my kids. I am blessed to be a healthy mom to two healthy children. EXHALE….
And so on to some of the good news… I get to be home with my kids and create! How cool is that? I have had some awesome wholesale orders lately. Linda Lu Designs handmade jewelry can now be found in the following places:
Escape Skincare Salon in Newport Beach, California
Ra Yoga Studio in Huntington Beach, California
Squash Blossom Boutique in Decatur, Georgia
The Happy Collective Concept Store in Rotterdam, Netherlands
Looped Handmade Boutique in June Lake, California
Tacoma Art Museum Gift Shop in Tacoma, Washington
Yay!!!
Lately, I am busy crocheting. It is fall, it’s cooler, it even rained all day here in Sunny Southern California yesterday! Crochet is something I have to do each fall/winter season. Nothing like snuggling up with a ball of yarn and a crochet hook. Just add a hot soy mocha and I am in heaven!
You can see some of the things I have been crocheting lately up in the shop!
A couple of other distractions:

A couple of patchwork quilts for the Littles...

And this custom order doll (the last one ever… or at least for right now).

It’s almost Friday! Looking forward to a fun weekend. I will have my beautiful nieces here from Sat. 9am – Sun. 12pm. Slumber Party!!!
Have a great weekend everyone! Tell your family you love them. Tell your friends thank you. Be extra nice to the cashier at the grocery store. Sleep in, do something nice for you. Smile!
:)

OMG! I’m a vendor at Renegade Craft Fair!

I still can’t believe it. I am so excited! Come visit me and my friend Emma. We will be sharing a booth. Emma makes and sells beautiful hip bags (not like Hulk Hogan’s fanny pack). I have been busy making lots of leather/suede jewelry. Lots. Mostly earrings. This season is all about feathers and fringe… so I am bringing it!
There are going to be OH SO MANY great artists/vendors there. You do not want to miss it. For more info and a list of vendors check out the Renegade LA webpage. Hope to see you there!

Linda Lu on the Runway

This is definitely worth blogging about. I am so excited to be included in this upcoming event. Graffiti Beach and Foam Magazine are having a Summer Guide 2011 Release Party. It will include a Bikini Fashion Show and Pop-Up Shops! Linda Lu Designs and Emma Pintado will have our own pop-up shop. My earrings will be worn by some of the models walking down the runway.

You’re all invited! Don’t miss out! It’s going to be so much fun!! The event will be poolside with a groovy summer vibe. There will be live music as well as complimentary drinks and appetizers. The fashion show will be at 3pm.

If you are interested in attending this event on Sat. Feb. 26th from 1pm-5pm in Brentwood, CA at the Hotel Angeleno, I have pre-sale tickets available for $10 ($15 value). Send me an email at linda@lindaludesigns.com

Hope to see you there!

Who has time to blog?

Seriously. I have struggled just to post a status or a picture on Facebook! This whole blogging thing has definitely been on the back burner. Not much to read here. I will just give links to follow me on Twitter and to “Like” me on FB. I am not totally giving up on this here blog. I hope to find the time to do this again some day. Perhaps when my son starts pre-school? It’s a goal.

B,B and B

Lucas, my two year old, and I went to the fabric store recently.  Lucas sees something he likes.  He starts yelling in the store, “TRUCKS!!”.   We go look at the trucks.  It was this adorable flannel fabric with John Deere tractors all over it.  So he is saying he wants trucks.  So I think, “oh this is cool, I can make him a blanket.”  I pull out the cream/tan one first.  “Do you like this one?” I ask him.  ”Yes.”  I pull out the blue one next to it.  “OR…. do you like this one?”  Bad idea mom!  Of course he likes both.  They both have trucks, duh!!  So I attempt to put one back and he cries.  I attempt to switch them and put the other one back… silly me.  So I take both.  I am so glad I did.

I’m not a quilter by any means.  I do believe this to be a quilt, however.  I cut up the fabric into 4 inch squares and sewed them all together.  In the remnant section, I found this great piece of green plush fabric to back it.  Voila!

I decided to list it on my Etsy Shop.  I had fun making it and thought I’d go ahead and list it as “Made To Order”.   I would make it again in a heartbeat!

That brings me to this question:  What do you think about items on Etsy being “Made To Order” as opposed to “In Stock and Ready To Ship”?  Would love to hear your thoughts about this.

Oh, and by the way, Lucas sleeps with his new blankie every night.  In fact, he sleeps with his 3 B’s:  His bear, his baby and his blankie.  Makes me smile every night.   :)

Just let me introduce myself…

My name is Humpty, pronounced with an “umpty”…

Oh wait, that’s not me.   Let’s try this again…

Hi!  I’m Linda Lu.  I am a wife and mother of two inspiring children.  My family is everything to me.  When it’s “me time” you will find me sewing.  I am a designer at heart and feel best when I am creating.  I am recreating myself these days.  What an exciting time!  I have good friends.  I like to have fun and laugh.

This is my new blog.  I used to blog over at www.lindalu.typepad.com.  It has been a LONG time!  I have been very busy raising my 6 1/2 year old girl, Maya and  2 year old boy, Lucas.  This blog is simply a place for me to journal about everyday life, post pictures of projects I am working on and  showcase some of the things I make for my Etsy shop.

I am so inspired to blog again.  Mainly because my friend Angelique has created the most beautiful blog space ever for me!!  Isn’t it so cute?!!  She redesigned my logo, my blog banner, my etsy banner, labels, and so on.  I am so grateful to have such a talented friend.  She’s a photographer by profession and took that awesome photograph of my children up there in the left hand corner.  She’s just one of those people who is good at everything she does.  If you are ever looking for a photographer, trust me, CALL HER!!  Thank you Angelique!!

I have been very busy making new things for my etsy shop  lately.  I was a little distracted trying to figure out what ONE THING I could focus on.  Well, that just doesn’t work for me.  It never has.   There is no perfect recipe for my shop.  Which reminds me of my dad.  Luigi, my perfectly Italian father.  He’s a wonderful cook.  But if you ask him for a recipe he cannot give it to you.  He always says the same thing, “A little bit of this and a little bit of that”.    He says “it’s the Italian way”.  Hmmf.  Maybe that’s true.  And so it is with me anyways.  Hence, the new philosophy and ‘title’ of my blog, my shop, and now that I think about it, my life!

Thanks for visiting my blog.  Feel free to follow along and leave comments.
